SERF'S UP
March 22, 2012

SERF, which stands for the Society of Environmentally Responsible Facilities, offers an environmental certification for commercial properties. (We couldn't resist that headline.) As part of the Michigan-based society's Chicago launch, it's certifying the 1.1M SF 330 North Wabash. Why does the CRE market need another environmental certification? SERF president Joe Maguire (his pin is a SERF logo) tells us that the standard fills a void for existing structures and "cuts through the endless delays, fees and uncertainty." The top certification fee is $12k. A number of Chicago property owners have expressed an interest in the certification, Joe says, with a special interest by healthcare facilities because standard sustainable criteria often run up against their health and sanitary requirements. |
