Shawn Mobley's Big Toolbox
July 2, 2009
Continuing with our Top 100 leaders series, yesterday morning, we chatted with Grubb & Ellis midwest director Shawn Mobley. He may sit in the big corner office, but Shawn says he still does a lot of interacting with clients and employees. |
And here, a beautiful re-enactment. We snapped him with colleague Jeff Perpich, right. Shawn joined four years ago to strategically grow the company, and since then, about 50 new brokerage pros have been hired. The 200-person Chicago office focuses mostly on office and industrial but has a small retail practice and recently added a multifamily sales group. Shawn says the company has a small shop feel with a big company toolbox. We're guessing power tools because Grubb handled the biggest deal in the O'Hare submarket in more than year, a 195k-SF lease for R&M Trucking. |
Shawn started as a bond trader but decided to explore real estate because he could get away from his desk and be creative. (And our mind goes straight to brokerage when we hear those two.) He finished his MBA in ?96 and then went to work for Jones Lang. Real estate has a much different timetable than bond sales, he says: bonds are sold over a matter of minutes or hours, while real estate takes months or years. He manages to put those opposing skills, speed and patience, to good use, playing with his 6-year-old son. |
