Shawn Mobley has been promoted to president, Brokerage Services at Grubb & Ellis. In this newly created position, he'll be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company's Chicago offices and will oversee offices in Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh as well as 16 affiliate offices. Shawn joined Grubb & Ellis in 2005 as managing director of the company's Chicago offices. In December 2008, he assumed responsibility for the Midwest region. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago.

Jeff Goodale has joined the Chicago office of HOK as SVP and co-director of the Justice Practice. Prior to joining HOK, Goodale was SVP at HDR, where he focused specifically on detention and corrections projects. He has overseen assignments ranging from 50 to 10,000 beds for clients including the Illinois Capital Development Board, the Illinois Department of Corrections, and the Department of Homeland Security. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Architecture at the Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Ed Connealy has been named partner at The Ruder Group, an independent multi-line sales organization based in Chicago. He has spent the past 5 years with Ruder after a career in the commercial flooring business.

Transwestern's Chris Saah and Hines' Jesse Carrillo have been named Advisory Council Co-Chairmen for this year's RealComm. As Co-Chairmen, their role will be to ID critical issues impacting the industry, develop the educational program, and work with the 24 Advisory Council members to frame the goals for the year.
Construction
Highland Baking Co. has selected Meridian Design Build to design and construct new corporate office space at the company's existing HQ at 2301 Shermer Road in Northbrook. Meridian will manage the selective demolition and construction of 13k-SF of office space in an unoccupied single story building attached to the main plant. Improvements include: design and installation of a new high efficiency HVAC system; and eco-friendly high power factor energy saving ballasts with motion sensor-controlled lighting. Meridian's Fred Jennings, General Superintendent and Joe Blanchard, Project Manager, will handle the project. The architect is A+M Architects.

ARCO/Murray National Construction Company completed a thirty-one dock trailer storage expansion improvement for Exel, Inc. at 1501 Remington Road, Bolingbrook. ARCO/Murray's Christian Evangelista, was the project executive. Jennifer Slagle represented Exel, with civil design completed by Jacob and Hefner.

Leopardo was awarded a $13.5-million contract to demolish the existing Jewel-Osco at 3630 N. Southport Ave and build a new 84k-SF Jewel-Osco. The new store will triple the size of the previous location and make use of the entire site with zero lot line construction. Leopardo is targeting LEED-Silver. Underground parking will allow for 124 spaces, with priority spaces for hybrids. The interior will feature an entry atrium, three-person elevator, and a wine cellar on the second floor. Anticipated completion is August 2010. Leopardo is serving as the general contractor with Camburas & Theodore as the architect.
Leasing news
Grubb & Ellis Company's Peter Block and Alan Klingler repped NCS Pearson in its lease renewal and relocation at 1 N. Dearborn. The publishing firm leased 16k-SF of space for 10 years. NCS Pearson is a publishing and education company HQ'd in London. Its company is scheduled to take occupancy on April 1, 2010.

ASSA ABLOY, a manufacturer of mechanical locks and security doors signed two renewals for 4k-SF at 235 Lies Road in Carol Stream and 23k-SF at 53518 County Rd 9 in Elkhart, Indiana. UGL Equis' Tim Cahill and Robert Tamillo repped ASSA ABLOY. The owner is Chicago Industrial Investments and the broker representing the landlord was CB Richard Ellis' John Gledhill.
Company news
Stan Johnson Company and Net Lease Authority are looking to expand into key markets across the United States, including Chicago. Following the successes of the company's first regional office, launched in Houston in August 2008, SJC will look to open four to five more offices in targeted cities, including Atlanta, San Fran, Southern California, and NYC. Leading the regional expansion effort is Daniel Herrold, who was promoted to Executive Managing Director of Business Development in November.
