TOP 100: McGuire Woods
Being one of the four Chicago law firms on the FDIC approved list has boosted McGuire Woods locally. Of the 150-year-old firm's 85 real estate attorneys, about 30 are in Chicago, working on everything from workouts to new development.
Paul Fisher, here with Patrick Brady (both partners), recently worked on restructuring the junior and senior debt of Trump International Hotel and Tower, involving more than a dozen banks worldwide. He suggests underwriting regulations often come as a reaction to economic crisis, so look for more regs and resulting difficulty to persist for two or three years. Paul and Patrick have worked at the firm for nearly 10 years (and practiced real estate law for more than 30) and have had close partnerships with Bank of America and the former LaSalle Bank.
Patrick works a lot in healthcare development, both surgical centers and medical offices owned by doctors. He tells us the firm is hoping to grow strategically in terms of clients as well as geographically, possibly expanding to the northeast or Texas, taking with it an emphasis on collegiality and education, as well as keeping its staff lean to ensure no layoffs during recessions. You may see Paul on campus at Kendall, where he teaches a class on hospitality. |
