Target To Sullivan Center
February 15, 2011
Target has signed a lease for 125k SF over two floors to open its new City Target in Fall 2012, a spokeswoman confirmed this morning. |
The historic building, once home to Carson Pirie Scott, is being redeveloped by Joseph A. Freed & Associates. Target says the new store will employ about 200. The Chicago Loop Alliance's Ty Tabing says the lease fills one of the most visible holes in retail on State St and should draw in other retailers looking to capitalize on thefoot traffic. Ty says the city has provided assistance to the site to bring in a retailer for the last three years that it's been empty andMayor Daley is thrilled the space is filled. (There are still spaces available for retailers on the ground floor, basement, and second story.) The store will be a part of Target's new, smaller urban retailconcept. Freed's Larry Freed says Target and a few other soon-to-be-announced tenants brings occupancy to 84%. Other tenants include Flat Top Grill , the School of the Art Institute of Chicago,Gensler architecture firm, City Year, the Illinois Department of Employment Security, and Walgreen’s e-commerce division. |
