Theodore I. Yi  joined Quarles & Brady LLP as a partner in the Real Estate practice. He comes from DLA Piper in Chicago where he has practiced for the past 23 years and chaired the Chicago Commercial Leasing Group. Theodore earned his law degree from Harvard  and his B.S. and B.A. from the Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Ann Sperling has been appointed COO for the Americas region at Jones Lang LaSalle effective this month. She'll succeed Bill Thummel,  who held the position since 2005 and has been named to the newly-created COO role for the firm's global Corporate Solutions organization. Previously, Sperling was managing director at Catellus Development Group, a national mixed-use development company.

Esther Yelen BermanPat McGuire  and Michael Weber  have joined @properties' Commercial Real Estate team.

Esther joins as VP of commercial sales. Previously, she spent 17 years with Jameson Realty, where she specialized in the sale of shopping centers and triple-net-leased free-standing properties throughout the Midwest and Southeast.

Pat also joins as VP of commercial sales. During a 25-year commercial real estate career, McGuire has worked in property managementappraisals, sales and leasing. Pat spent 17 years with Jameson prior to joining @properties and was also one of that firm's top-producing commercial brokers.

Michael has joined as a senior commercial broker. During his 13-year career, Weber has marketed and sold more than $200M in commercial real estate in a variety of asset classes including multi-family, office, retail, industrial and land. He was previously a broker with Sheldon Good & Company.  In addition to holding his real estate broker's license, Weber is an attorney.

Magellan Development Group's James R. Loewenberg has been selected for the ULI's Chicago District Council 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award.  Jim?s award will be presented at a Dec. 3 dinner at the Four Seasons. Jim has led the design and development of many of Chicago?s most successful residential and mixed-use properties as president of Loewenberg Architects. During his career, Loewenberg has developed and designed more than 30,000 residential units and 3,500 single-family homes. He also serves as chairman of NNP Residential, Magellan?s property management and leasing group. One of his largest recent accomplishments is the 4,950 residence Lakeshore East Development.

Transwestern's Randall Koch  was promoted to SVP. Randall teams with Mitchell Rothstein and Fred Freeman in Transwestern's industrial group, specializing in acquisition, disposition, leasing and build-to-suit of industrial properties and the sale of vacant land in Metro Chicago. He was part of the team that recently won the Industrial Deal of the Year Award at the 2008 NAIOP Awards for the Central Grocers Build-to-Suit in the Cherry Hill Industrial Park in Joliet.    

Leasing

Nicor National signed a lease at the East West Corporate Center on West Diehl Rd in Naperville. The 65k-SF space is owned and managed by Keystone Property Group in a two-building, 228k-SF office campus. Colliers Bennett & Kahnweiler's David Kahnweiler and Brian Kling  represented Nicor National. Jones Lang's John ClarkJamey Dix, and Jeff Shay repped Keystone Property Group.

Baum Realty Group  recently helped AutoZone sign a lease for a new North Side location at 3701 N. Western Ave in North Center. Baum's Doug Renner and Steve Schwartz  represented property owner Caroline Grossinger in the 25k-SF ground lease.

Jones Lang LaSalle has been appointed leasing agent for Harbor Group International?s 512k-SF, Class A asset at 300 S. Wacker. The building is  92% occupied with 43k-SF available for lease. The building was awarded the ENERGY STAR designation in 2008 and 2009. An affiliate of Harbor Group International has owned and operated the building since August of 2006.

Paine/Wetzel ONCOR International has completed two lease transactions in Elgin and East Dundee.

 

  • Scott Brass, a metals distributor, is expanding into 927 N. State Street in Elgin. The company will occupy 7k-SF within the 27,600 square feet building. Paine/Wetzel's Rodger D. Chenore  and William J. Kerrins, represented the tenant. Paine/Wetzel's Elise A. Couston, Leslie P. Spinner  and Patrick Fitzgerald, represented the landlord, Chicago Properties, LLC.
  • Advantage Precision Products, Inc., a manufacturer of hydraulics precision products, is expanding at 1090 Rock Road Lane in East Dundee by 3k-SF. Paine/Wetzel's G. Pat Ryan  represented both the tenant and the landlord, Rental Systems, LLC.

UGL Equis' Mike Cello  signed a sublease agreement with a long-term extension at 1140 W. Thorndale in Itasca on behalf of Enable Holdings, Inc, an asset recover company. Enable Holdings will sublease 48k-SF of flex/office space from Unistrut Corporation, manufacturers of metal framing and telescopic tubing and struts. NAI Hiffman's Daniel O'Neill  represented TA Associates Realty of Boston, the recorded owner of the building. UniStrut, the sub-landlord, was represented by CB Richard Ellis' Kevin Rogers.

American Planning Association  signed a 21k-SF lease at Michigan Plaza, the two-tower complex located at 205/225 N. Michigan Avenue. The association is relocating its Chicago headquarters to Michigan Plaza from 122 S. Michigan Avenue. MB Real Estate's Mark Buth  represented building ownership along with MB's Kathleen Bertrand, VP of leasing at MB Real Estate. CB Richard Ellis' Gregg Witt represented APA.

Sales News

Deringer-Ney, a manufacturer of high performance alloys and precision metal components sold 10 acres at 1250 Townline Rd, Mundelein. Medline Industries  purchased it for an undisclosed amount. Asking price was $4.15 million. CBRE's Keith PuritzBrett KronerRyan Bain and Zach Graham  were the sole brokers.

Cawley Chicago Commercial Real Estate's Rawly Lantz and Cody Sundberg exclusively represented the tenant, Election Systems Software,  and negotiated a buyout with the landlord of their Lisle location at 5400 Patton Drive totaling 7k-SF. Cawley's Terry Grapenthin procured the buyer Group MW for the condo purchase.

Management

LNR has awarded the management and leasing of two office properties to NAI Hiffman Asset Management. The first, 800-810 Jorie Plaza is a two-story, 180k-SF facility located in Oakbrook. The second is 75 Executive Drive, a 107k-SF, 3-story office building located in Aurora.

TA Associates Realty has awarded the management of three of its industrial assets to NAI Hiffman Asset Management. The assets, which total approximately 660k-SF are the 328k-SF Carol Point  at 900-910 Kimberly Drive in Carol Stream, 238k-SF at Mallard Lakes at 1600 Hunter Drive in Hanover Park, and  147k-SF at Sheffield Industrial at 6675 Daniel Burnham Parkway in Portage, Indiana.

KDR Associates, owner of the Prairie Market retail power center in Oswego has chosen NAI Hiffman's Asset Management Group to run the second phase of its 850k- SF development. The newest construction, called Prairie Market East, occupies the land east of Fifth Street and has four outlets plus 80k-SF of retail space to be anchored by PetSmart.

Navigant Consulting has awarded the management and leasing of its medical office building to NAI Hiffman Asset Management. The 81k-SF Rush-Copley Medical Plaza at 2000 Ogden Avenue in Aurora is 80% occupied and is adjacent to the Rush-Copley Hospital. The hospital and med office building are separately owned and managed.

The Building Owners and Managers Association  of Suburban Chicago announced its The Building of the Year (TOBY) winners on November 5. Judges spent two days evaluating the 19 entries from Schaumburg to South Bend, and the winners are:

Construction

Summit Design + Build, LLC  has begun two retail build-outs at Block 37 located 108 N. State Street. Joseph Freed and Associates LLC is the developer of the project. Summit is building out Sabon, an international cosmetics company and Beard Papa?s, a Japanese chain of cream puff bakeries. Summit Design + Build?s David Brown will be responsible for the Sabon space and Tim Stoeckel for Beard Papa?s. Alan Walters, superintendent, will be responsible for the on-site construction of both projects.

The Missner Group  completed tenant build-outs on behalf of the Energy Volleyball Club  and Jump!Zone  within the Howard Industrial Center at 6420 W. Howard in Niles. The Center is an industrial/distribution redevelopment and a joint development of  The Principal Financial Group and The Missner Group.
