UGL Equis Wins GSA
August 5, 2010
Following one of the most complex bid processes they've ever seen, UGL Equis' Brian Adelstein and Matt Attaway helped their company earn a five-year contract to lease real estate for up to 60 agencies in 50 states for the General Services Administration.
UGL was one of four firms selected from a field of 15-20, and the only new representative hired in this round. The bid process was very limited, giving only two pages where typically eight are allowed to describe what brokers would do in each of eight scenarios. That, combined with the short time frame to place a bid, made the competition especially tough, they say. The contract starts Oct. 1 and lasts for one year, with four possible, one-year extensions.
They believe recent compression of real estate firms, especially the Staubach/ JLL merger, narrowed the field and helped UGL distinguish itself as a top, conflict-free tenant rep firm. Brian anticipates the new contract will bring in 75 to 100 new transactions a year. But it won't be without homework: Each member of the team working for the GSA has to go through a three-week training. Brian has more than a decade of experience working with the government as a client, including working end-to-end on the Census 2010.
