UIC Wants Obama Library Campus to Cap the Eisenhower
Fifield may want to cap the Kennedy, but UIC is proposing building over part of the Ike with its two-site Obama Presidential Library plan on the West Side (with the library and museum on city-owned land in North Lawndale and the institute on UIC’s campus), DNAinfo reports. The school and the Steans Family Foundation submitted a plan last week, one of four being considered for the library. (The Decision will be announced early next year.) As you can see in this futuristic rendering, the “urban living room” above the area near the Jane Byrne Interchange would include recreational areas and urban farms, DNAinfo writes, creating an east-west corridor that connects the library campus in North Lawndale to the museum campus on the lake. Who’s your money on, UIC or UChicago?
