One of the hottest new spaces in Chicago, the Wit Hotel at the corner of State and Lake, is also one of the greenest. Located next to an L-stop, the new hotel doesn't have a parking lot or garage, only valet. (What they do with the cars . . . nobody knows.) Permeable roof pavers on its popular rooftop create areas for stormwater runoff, said Jackie Koo, addressing the Friends of Downtown.

Wit General Manager John Callan  says he loves the uniqueness of the hotel's asymmetrical exterior design, lightning bolt on the roof, and ?angel wing? chandeliers in the lobby. Plus, he likes the history of the site, previously home to two theaters and a restaurant, which is celebrated in photographs at the hotel's State/Lake Restaurant.
