WHAT CHICAGO CRAVES
Chicago’s CBD and 'burbs are both in high demand when it comes to data, but the tactics are different in each submarket, according topanelists at Bisnow’s upcoming Chicago Data Center Boom event Dec. 8 at the Westin River North. (We'd provide examples, but all of our data was lost in a fire. If only we'd had this event sooner.)

WHAT CHICAGO CRAVES
Josh Buis (formerly with Facility Gateway, but now starting his own data center development firm) tells us that rehabbed downtown buildings as close to 350 Cermak's carrier hotel as possible are the place to be right now. (Is that where they are hiding all the secret prizes?) Facility Gateway is redeveloping 601 W Polk to include 25k SF more data center space and Josh says another two to four could be in the works for the next year (we’ve heard rumors one might be on West Fulton). Former industrial warehouse buildings provide the “good bones” data centers need to operate—concrete floors, good engineering, and often, locations near power sources and fiber. Access to a technically skilled workforce is also easier from a downtown location, Josh says.
