WHERE IT'S @
February 5, 2010
Sometimes we wish our name was just a symbol, but that’s not the only reason we checked in with 10-year-old @properties, led by Michael Golden and Thad Wong. Since breaking from a small brokerage firm in Bucktown, it's grabbed the biggest market share of any residential brokerage firm in the city—gaining 28-30% each of the last two years.
During the recession, they decided the best way to keep business going was to heavily recruit experienced agents. The result has been that huge market share bump, with only a slight dip in sales. This expansion also led to: the North Shore, where they have an office in Evanston; plans to open a Winnetka office later this year; and a closer look at Highland Park. In addition to more brokers, @properties also added more business lines. It expanded into commercial about two years ago and recently added distressed properties and property management divisions. The goal, Thad says, is to one day be a one-stop shop for everything commercial real estate. Mike and Thad started their business by marketing major developments, and that still accounts for about 15% of revenue. Their rep portfolio includes SoNo, 10 E. Delaware, R+D 659, 565 W. Quincy, Silver Tower (303 W. Ohio), 2930 Sheridan, and 6 N. Michigan.
