WIN FOR MAGELLAN
Magellan is receiving an award today from the Metropolitan Planning Council. The Burnham Award for Excellence in Planning honors those that have followed up to Daniel Burnham's 1909 plan for the city and lakefront. Magellan has kept true to keeping some open land along the lakefront by developing a park in its planned Lakeshore East community (we snapped Magellan execs including president David Carlins at Spring Fling a few weeks back). The $4B project includes a new pre-school and will soon have a grocery store—elements MPC believes are a much-needed improvement from the dilapidated golf course that was on the site near Wacker and Lakeshore in the 1990s. (A course that made Twain's quote about "ruining a good walk" truer than ever.) |
