CHA to open bidding on Cabrini-Green this Summer
The Chicago Housing Authority is finalizing plans for the redevelopment of the 65-acre Cabrini-Green area, the former site of a massive housing project. The CHA will begin bidding on the site this summer, and from there select developers to develop the site over multiple phases, split up into 14 development parcels, DNAinfo reports. Cabrini-Green, once an expansive public housing project with more than 3,600 units, was torn down over the past decade. The City is required to put at least 700 public housing units in the new development. The next CHA community meeting on the site will be held April 22 at 6:30pm at the Seward Park Field House, 375 W Elm St. A plan the CHA released a year ago said half of the new residential units would be market rate, 30% would be public housing, and an additional 20% would be affordable.
