Magellan Unveils Proposal for Even Taller Wanda Tower
The massive tower proposed for the New East Side could rise from 88 to 93 stories, according to Jeanne Gang, the famed local architect behind the project. Jeanne and representatives from Magellan Development detailed plans for the Wanda Vista Tower, which could be the third tallest in the city, to a packed hotel ballroom of more than 500 people Monday night. The project could cost $900M and take until 2019 to complete, DNAinfo reports. The luxury condo building and hotel, once completed, could create 420 permanent jobs and generate $19M in city real estate tax revenue, representatives said. The Chinese conglomerate the Wanda Group is funding the project, the largest Chinese project of its kind in the city. Jeanne said the tower’s unusual design is inspired by the "frustrum," a triangular cone similar to a Toblerone chocolate bar. The project would first require a zoning change. [DNAinfo]
