Magellan Development is synonymous with Lakeshore East thanks to projects like Aqua Tower and the under-construction Vista Tower. But the firm's plans to build three more towers in Lakeshore East, one reaching 80 stories, drew concerns from residents and Alderman Brendan Reilly (42nd) about overdevelopment when Magellan unveiled its plans in July

In an email to 42nd Ward residents, Reilly said the development would not move forward until Magellan and its partner, Lendlease, addressed his concerns. The issues Reilly raised mainly centered on the distance between the buildings and ensuring the distance between the towers and existing buildings are consistent with setbacks that govern the site. Reilly also wants to see more green space, tighter security and improved garage access for the development.

Magellan President David Carlins said the firm would address Reilly's misgivings. These three towers, along with a fourth building at 195 North Columbus Drive that would include 640 apartments, would be the final phase in Magellan's nearly 20-year master plan to redevelop Lakeshore East into a mixed-use neighborhood.
