Chicago Records Record Number Of Post-Recession Construction Permits
You may have a crick in your neck from looking up at all the cranes in the air. Mayor Rahm Emanuel visited the installation of the 33rd tower crane to be installed in 2016 at Related Midwest's One Bennett Park in Streeterville.
The city says that's a post-recession record and marks eight more than were installed last year. In total, 48 tower cranes were in operation this year, 31 more than were in operation years ago. The mayor said this was an example of the economic opportunities available in Chicago.
Including One Bennett Park, there are 29 tower cranes currently in operation. Seven more have been approved and are waiting to be installed. Related Midwest is targeting 2018 for delivery of the 69-story One Bennett Park, which will have 69 luxury condos and 279 apartments.
