This Week's Chicago Deal Sheet: Pharmaceutical HQ Lands In Chicago
A Swedish pharmaceutical company picked Chicago as the site of its U.S. headquarters and tapped former Horizon Therapeutics executives to spearhead business development in the city.
Immedica Pharma, which is focused on addressing rare and severe diseases, announced in a press release it would establish a U.S. commercial business in Chicago. The company aims to become a global leader in the rare disease sector, building on its presence in Europe and the Middle East.
“This expansion into the U.S. is a pivotal moment for Immedica as we continue our mission to deliver life-changing therapies to people living with rare diseases,” Immedica Pharma CEO Anders Edvell said in a release. “Our presence in the U.S will allow us to better serve the needs of patients in North America and marks a pivotal step in Immedica’s ongoing commitment to serving unmet medical needs on a global scale.”
To lead its U.S. operations, Immedica hired Daniel Camardo as president of Immedica North America and added Joe Whalen to its business development team. Camardo and Whalen are former Horizon Therapeutics executives.
Amgen acquired Horizon Therapeutics, based in Deerfield, for $28B in 2023.
