Goodbye Hard Rock Chicago, Hello St. Jane Hotel
Becker Ventures and Aparium Hotel Group announced the name for the boutique hotel that will replace the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago, inside the Carbide & Carbon Building. The St. Jane Hotel will open to the public in spring 2018.
The hotel will honor Jane Addams, the legendary Chicago suffragist and mother of social work who founded the American settlement house movement. Addams and Ellen Gates Starr founded Hull-House in 1889. The complex grew to 13 buildings by 1911 and helped thousands of European immigrants to the U.S. acclimate to their new homeland. Addams was the first American woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
Becker and Aparium are planning a full remodeling of the 363-room hotel, designed by Simeone Deary Design Group and Booth Hansen Architects. Becker Ventures principal Carrie Meghie said the hotel will pay homage to Addams beyond the name, by supporting local causes through sales, donations and hosting charity events. The Hard Rock Chicago's last day of operation is Nov. 30.
