The Restored Chicago Motor Club Hampton Inn's Here
The long vacant Chicago Motor Club Building at 68 E Wacker Place will get a new life as a Hampton Inn when it reopens on Tuesday. The lobby of the 143-room hotel features several nods to the original Art Deco tower built in 1928. It has retained the original tile floors, millwork and lighting fixtures, along with a mural map the club once used to plan trips. Restoring the historic building to its original glory was very important to MB Real Estate, DNAinfo reports. They even threw in a 1928 Ford Model A, built the same year as the tower, which you can win the right to name by using #1928HamptonInnspiration. The lobby also features a bar/restaurant named Jack's Place, which offers appetizers, sandwiches, Gino's East pizza and cocktails. MB Real Estate spent $9.5M for the tower in 2013. Before then, the building had been empty since 2004. [DNAinfo]
