City Accepting Cabrini-Green Development Proposals

Chicago Housing Authority is seeking proposals from developers for its first phase of redeveloping the former Cabrini-Green housing project site. The 65-acre site has remained empty since CHA demolished the final buildings in 2011.

CHA wants to build 2,340 apartments, with one-third earmarked for public housing. Phase 1 entails the construction of 900 mixed-income units on 17 acres, according to Crain's. The parcel is bounded by the Clybourn Medical Center, Larrabee, Clybourn and what used to be Blackhawk Street.

The land has been highly desirable to developers waiting for CHA to move forward, thanks to its proximity to the newly opened NewCity development, Old Town and the North/Clybourn retail district. Proposals are due April 29. [Crain's]
