Michigan Plaza Is New HQ For Canadian Design Firm
Another company has decided to call Chicago home. What makes this latest move unique is that the company announcing the headquarters move already has offices downtown. Canadian architecture and design firm exp is expanding its offices at 205 North Michigan (shown) to add an extra 150 workers in a HQ relocation, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Exp, which has worked on projects ranging from the new pedestrian bridge spanning Lake Shore Drive at 35th Street, CTA infrastructure improvements and a new control tower at O'Hare International Airport, already employs 230 people in Chicago. The expansion will cost $5M, and exp is expected to fill the new hires with Chicago-area talent. Exp will begin the expansion in April. The firm employs 3,000 people in 110 offices around the globe.
EXP's announcement comes two weeks after Caterpillar announced it would move its HQ from Peoria to Chicago. Other high-profile HQ moves include McDonald's move to the West Loop; ConAgra's relocation to Merchandise Mart; Wilson Sporting Goods' move to One Prudential Plaza; and Kraft Heinz, which now calls Aon Center home and paid $47M to terminate the lease at its former Northfield HQ.
