River North's Newest Multifamily Development Gets OK To Start Construction
The corner of State and Huron will see cranes in the air this summer. CA Ventures received a construction permit to build Eight East Huron, a 26-story apartment tower, and crews are already laying the groundwork.
The development will rest on the former site of two 19th century buildings that weren't protected under the city's landmark ordinance. It's an exceptionally small plot to build an apartment building, but River North is one of the hottest downtown submarkets for multifamily activity and every available inch of land is being claimed. This site is so small that some of the caissons are encroaching the sidewalk, Chicago Architecture Blog reports.
When completed, Eight East Huron will contain 52 studio apartments and 53 larger units. The construction permit also allows for ground-level retail and 31 parking spaces on the second through fourth levels. Eight East Huron's location allows it to qualify as a TOD. [CAB]
