Prep For Solstice On The Park Construction To Start Next Month
Another high-profile project designed by starchitect Jeanne Gang is ready to begin construction. The 26-story Solstice on the Park is expected to begin construction this fall. Developer MAC Properties announced at a school council meeting at Brett Harte Elementary school that the site would be surrounded by fencing beginning Oct. 5.
The main concerns raised at the meeting focused on traffic flow and safety, the Hyde Park Herald reports. Linn-Mathes, the project's contractor, assured attendees that those issues were already being addressed and would be minimized during the two-year construction process.
The Chicago Plan Commission approved the development in February. The project calls for affordable housing allotments, 316 parking spaces, and improvements to Brett Harte's playground and parking lots. This is the second major Hyde Park development involving Studio Gang. Last week, the University of Chicago announced its new Studio Gang-designed dorms were ready for the first round of move-ins.
