So You Wanna Live in a Funeral Home?
Real estate developer David Trandel wants to build apartments and retail on the site of historic Herdegen-Brieske Funeral Home at the Lincoln, Southport and Wellington intersection on the North Side. The plan is to gut the existing building and incorporate architectural elements that will bring out the beauty of its...interesting past, while preserving its ornate Gothic revival terra-cotta facade, the Sun-Times reports. Trandel admits it's creepy but says done right, it could be a unique selling point. The structure, built in 1912, has been a funeral home since the mid-'80s. Units at the new development are expected to go for roughly $2,500/month for a one-bedroom and $3,300/month for a two-bedroom. [Sun-Times]
