South Loop Residents Want Open Space Preserved for River South Development
CMK and Lend Lease have big plans for 7.3 acres in the South Loop but residents want assurances not all of that land will be used for 2,700 apartments. Many have become so accustomed to the open space in the South Loop they fear the five-tower development between Harrison Street and River City will oversaturate the area with residential units. CMK and Lend Lease filed a zoning application with the City last week and plans for the development call for a public riverwalk, but DNAInfo reports many residents would prefer the land stay as it is. Whether that's a realistic option in one of the city's most popular residential areas is another matter; the City Council needs to approve the plan first. [DNA]
