West Loop Residents Pitching Community Center as Alternative to Condo Development Plan
LG Development has a tract at 111 S Peoria St under contract to build a nine-story penthouse building with 95 condos, but it's got some competition. The West Loop Residents Association is presenting an alternative plan—a community center—at a meeting Monday night, according to DNAInfo. LG's under contract to acquire the site for $6.25M, contingent on a zoning change. It had previously planned to build a 13-story apartment tower, but residents slammed the proposal and plans were ultimately scrapped. The new plan calls for a mix of one- through four-bedroom units and up to 141 parking spots on-site. The Residents Association's proposed community center would include a gym, a green rooftop community garden and a meeting space for residents. It would be privately financed through fundraising and neighbors say they already have a $2M commitment in place to help purchase the property. The meeting is scheduled for 7pm Monday at Merit School of Music, 38 S Peoria St. [DNA]
