How Weather Impacts Your Building's Bottom Line
Utility costs typically account for 17 to 19 percent of all building operating expenses, making it one of the most expensive line items in any operating budget, according to a new white paper from Cassidy Turley.
But as weather becomes increasingly volatile, and with the growing impact of weather-related events on operating expenses, investors must consider weather-related risk as a variable in building performance.
"Best practices can save up to 50 percent on energy use, while worst practices can increase energy use by 60-210 percent," the report says. "The data overwhelmingly supports that more efficient building designs tailored to tenant behavior could greatly reduce the cost-side of the equation for owners and ultimately generate higher net operating income relative to other assets."
