Google Takes 132K SF More In Fulton Market
Tech giant Google is expanding its Chicago footprint again with the lease of about 132K SF at 210 North Carpenter St., a 12-story building being developed by Sterling Bay. Google will start moving employees into the property in about a year.
The 200K SF property is under construction in the hot Fulton Market district. The Google lease will represent well over half of its space.
“What started out as a small sales office has now grown to house some of Google’s most critical teams, with roughly over 1,000 employees," Karen Sauder, who heads Google’s Chicago office, told the Chicago Tribune.
"Chicago is considered an innovation hub for the greater Midwest and attracts incredible talent from across all industries,” Sauder said.
Unlike some cities with a sizable tech industry, Chicago's tech isn't focused on a single neighborhood, but has a number of hubs. With the presences of Google, Fulton Market has become one of those hubs.
Sterling Bay, a pioneer in the rejuvenation of Fulton Market, redeveloped the structure that serves as Google's regional HQ, the 550K SF 1KFulton.
210 North Carpenter is going to offer a rooftop lap pool, a tenant lounge and gaming area, a fitness center and locker rooms, a yoga room, conference facilities and on-site parking for over 40 cars, as well as proximity to the Morgan Street station of the CTA Green and Pink lines.
