Building Collapse Near 1K Fulton Could Pose Additional Risk
A building undergoing rehab at 312 N Carpenter St partially collapsed late Wednesday night when the bow truss roof caved in. No injuries were reported in the collapse, but Chicago Fire Department officials worry that the remaining structure may fall.
Police are guarding the building’s remains while the city’s Department of Buildings assesses the damage. The building is next to Sterling Bay’s 1000 W Fulton Market development, which counts Google as one of its main tenants.
312 N Carpenter was one of four buildings in Fulton Market reportedly purchased by Madison Capital, which planned to redevelop the building. [DNA]
