Logan Square Farmers Market

When: Sundays through Oct. 25, 10am-3pm
What: Now in its 10th year, this market from the Logan Square Chamber of Commerce is one of the more intimate farmers markets in Chicago.
Nearby developments: The former Logan Square Mega Mall site at 2500 N Milwaukee will eventually make way for Logan's Crossing, an ambitious mixed-use development that will include 267 residential units, retail and 1:1 bike parking.
61st Street Farmers Market
Where: Between Dorchester and Blackstone avenues on 61st Street
When: Saturdays through Oct. 31, 9am-2pm
What: The best farmers market on the South Side features live music, cooking demos and seminars where experts educate patrons on sustainability and food.
Nearby developments: Sculptor and artist Theaster Gates has transformed former abandoned buildings on the 6900 block of South Dorchester into Dorchester Projects, an ongoing project including a library, slide archive and soul food kitchen. A 15-story, 500k SF mixed-use building designed by Jeanne Gang is being built at 5101 S Harper Ave.
Where: 1800 S Halsted St
When: Sundays through Oct. 25, 9am-2pm
What: In addition to fresh produce and meats, this market serves as a community flea market, selling everything from used books and records to antiques.
Nearby developments: The debate continues over Property Markets Group's planned 500-unit development at 16th Street and Peoria Avenue. Baum Development, meanwhile, wants to turn a former warehouse at 931 W 19th St into 111 apartments.
Daley Plaza Farmers Market
Where: Dearborn Parkway and Washington Streeet
When: Thusdays through Oct. 29, 7am-3pm
What: Chicago's longest-running farmers market is easily accessible via public transit and has some of the best foot traffic in town.
Nearby developments: Take the time to view the progress of nearby 150 North Riverside, River Point and Wolf Point West, each inching closer to the sky by the day.
Museum of Contemporary Art
Where: 220 E Chicago Ave
When: Tuesdays through Oct. 27, 7am-2pm
What: This European-style farmers market is steps from one of Chicago's marquee museums and blocks from the city's most dense retail shopping district.
Nearby developments: Northwestern University recently broke ground on its new biomedical research facility on the site of Historic Prentice Women's Hospital. Several apartment towers are also in construction nearby.
