Andersonville Home to City's First Medical Canabis Dispensary
Chicago's first medical marijuana dispensary is open for business. Dispensary 33 in Andersonville already has 150 registered patients waiting for product, and will sell buds initially, with edibles and concentrates arriving next month.
It's been a long time coming. The City Council initially tried to limit dispensaries to industrial areas, but zoning regulations approved last year by the City Zoning Committee made it possible for the shops to be near Chicago's high-traffic tourist and nightlife districts. The Zoning Committee approved six dispensaries last November.
Modern Cannabis, a shop in Logan Square, expects to open in the first week of January. Another dispensary in Norwood Park, next to the iconic Superdawg drive-in, has met with resistance from residents and the local alderman. [S-T]
