Streeterville’s Latest Trend: Bowling
These aren’t Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski’s bowling alleys. Lucky Strike’s 20k SF expansion around AMC River East 21, on the heels of Pinstripes opening nearby in the former River East Arts Center space, is an example of bowling’s 21st century upgrade into more of a social, family-oriented experience, the Chicago Tribune reports. Lucky Strike’s $5M plan: an arcade room with 150 games, craft beer bar and six-hole Chicago-themed mini golf course. Over at Pinstripes, bocce ball and an outdoor patio are the big non-bowling attractions. While Millennials tend to gravitate toward vintage spots like Timber Lanes or Fireside Bowl, bowling’s $3.2B in 2013 revenues (along with Streeterville’s residential and hotel boom) shows a market for these new multi-use destinations.
