Harrison Street Building New Senior Housing At Children's Memorial Site
One of Lincoln Park's most architecturally significant buildings may have a date with the wrecking ball. Harrison Street Real Estate Capital wants to build a new senior housing facility where Children's Memorial Hospital's Nellie Black Pavilion is, and intends to tear down the structure, which landed on Preservation Chicago's 2016 Chicago 7 list of endangered buildings.
Harrison Street says it bought the building from McCaffery Interests, which is leading a venture redeveloping Children's Memorial into an ambitious mixed-use development. Demolition is already underway on that project. Harrison Street plans to replace the seven-story Nellie Black building with a similar structure, Crain's reports.
Harrison Street is JV'ing with Houson-based Belmont Village on the 160-unit facility, which would be Harrison Street's first senior housing project in Chicago. [Crain's]
