Chicago Women Turning Rooftops into Urban Farms
Two Chicago women are changing how we look at green rooftops by transforming roofs into urban farms. Tracy Boychuk and Molly Meyer run The Roof Crop, a program situated around a contiguous growing system developed by Meyer called Omni Ecosystems. Boychuk and Meyer’s business model sets them up as tenant farmers where they install, maintain and harvest the produce under lease agreements, DNAInfo reports. The model is green, sustainable and generates income. Boychuk’s and Meyer’s 7,800 SF farm at 1511 W Carroll will reap its first harvest in July. [DNA]
