Balfour Beatty Buying Spree
June 9, 2010
In less than a year, Balfour Beatty Construction acquired SpawMaxwell (Houston), Charter Builders (Dallas), and RT Dooley(Charlotte). CEO Robert Van Cleave tells us SpawMaxwell and RTDooley bulk up its renovations and interiors offerings. |
Robert says the new firms will expand services it can offer in key markets outside its Dallas home base. In the latest news: NPR(Get it? News?) selected Balfour Beatty to provide pre-construction services and to manage construction of its new DC HQ—with 10k SF data center, technology core, and 100k SF open-concept newsroom. (Funding, we presume, comes from viewers like you.) The project will transform a historic warehouse into a sustainable 330k SF office building. Designed by Hickok Cole Architects to LEED Gold specs, construction begins this fall, completion is slated for late '12, and NPR starts operations there in '13. The company is also managing construction of the Omni Dallas Convention Center Hotel and Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas. |
