Bisnow Scoop: Burleson Nabs BioMed
Burleson landed a biomed distribution center to open in Q1. It’s just a small 5,000 SF deal, but for the city, it could lead to big things. Think how much hubbub one Hobbit is causing at the box office.
Burleson EDC manager Justin Bond tells us Florida-based AxoGen will receive economic incentives to offset a portion of the costs to establish the facility. What the future holds: a larger facility in Burleson's HighPoint Business Park for the growth of a cutting-edge company. AxoGen CFO Greg Freitag says Burleson's location and accessibility will allow the firm to process late-night orders and meet demand for delivery of nerve repair products throughout the US, including the West Coast. (So fear of nerve compression is no longer an excuse to avoid late night pillow fights.)
Here's Greg with AxoGen SVP Jill Schiaparelli and CEO Karen Zaderej. "We're hoping to start a wave," Justin says. AxoGen (the 19th fastest-growing tech company, according to Deloitte) could attract similar companies to Burleson, Justin says. In Florida, AxoGen is located among a cluster of medical device/biomedical companies. Justin says the next job is to demonstrate how Burleson can be a viable option for these companies. Now, Burleson is looking to form partnerships with some of the area's med schools and orgs and to use AxoGen's story as a key example.
