DALLAS HUD GRANT
November 4, 2010
HUD regional administrator Donald Babers and Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson announced a $2.2M HUD grant to the City of Dallas at City Hall?s Council Chambers last week. The grant request was based on a study on TODs funded by The Real Estate Council and will support local efforts to achieve sustainable communities that link housing, transportation, and services. The HUD funds will help with land acquisition and planning for four sites near DART light-rail stations to connect workforce housing to DART and other services. The TODs involved are the Lancaster Corridor (VA Medical Center Station), Frazier (Hatcher Station), Five Points (Park Lane Station), and Fair Park (J.B. Jackson Station). The HUD Sustainable Community Challenge Grant process was extremely competitive and limited to $40M nationwide. TREC funded $175k of the TOD study, Bank of America, $100k, and the Craig and Kathryn Hall Foundation, $25k. |
