LEED FOR THE HOMELESS
The downtown Dallas Bridge Homeless Assistance Center is now LEED Silver, making it the largest LEED certified shelter in the US. Designed by Overland Partners Architects with CamargoCopeland Architects, the shelter has received four national awards for its design. Completed in May ‘08, the multi-purpose facility provides housing and emergency and transitional care for more than 6k people. Instead of resembling dark warehouses and gymnasiums, The Bridge features translucent walls allowing in natural light, glass art panels with poetry written by the homeless, and classrooms and job training areas, says Overland’s James Andrews. |
