MILLION DOLLAR CHECK-UP
February 24, 2011
Dirt will start moving next month on the new $800M University Hospital at UT Southwestern Medical Center to replace University Hospital - St. Paul. UT Southwestern director of planning and designHolly Ragan (whom we snapped in her office) may look familiar. She was one our panelists from last week's Bisnow Healthcare Summit. She tells us over the last few years UTSW erected several buildings including the fifth phase of the North Campus and the first phase of a BioCenter complex. The latest project, University Hospital, has hadfour years of planning for 1.3M SF and is targeted to open spring '15. | |
The new 12-story, 424-bed facility (rendered above) will be on a 32-acre site on UT Southwestern?s West Campus. Holly says the planning team has taken a systems-oriented approach to green design and is aiming for LEED certification. She says the design will also improve the experience of patients and families, incorporating the latest medical technologies from robotics in the operating rooms to imaging and tracking systems that support safety, quality assessment, and cost-efficiency goals. Another few passions in Holly's life: distance running and her golden retriever, Wrigley. |
