Dallas entrepreneur and philanthropist billionaire Charles Wyly died in Aspen Sunday in a car accident. The 77-year-old and his brother,Sam, led a string of businesses over the years including founding Michaels as well as leading Bonanza Steakhouse, Maverick Capital, Earth Resources Co, and Green Mountain Energy. He was also the namesake (with his wife) of the Dee and Charles Wyly Theater in the AT&T Performing Arts Center. The couple?s philanthropy is well known including their endowment of a $2M chair at the Center for BrainHealth at UT Dallas as well as with gifts to numerous other charities. Funeral arrangements are pending. |
