Last year, TCU opened its first LEED gold certified dorm, but university facilities associate vice chancellor Will Stallworth says local media showed little notice. âWe have to get Joe Average interested in why sustainability is important,â he told a crowd Thursday at the Greater Fort Worth Real Estate Council's half-day sustainability summit at the Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus. The event's goal was to identify and define short-term profit and long-term value of sustainable projects.âIt's a strong message we're putting out to design all our buildings to LEED standards,â Will says. âWe're hoping it will pay off over time.â |
Bell Industry founder David Bell says green building practices will thrive if they can prove to be money-makers. About 60% of the country's electricity usage comes from commercial facilities, David says, and when those buildings start making reductions in consumption and building owners can make money doing it, then saving the planet follows along. |
