TREE HUGGING
Manhattan Construction Co is known for its monster projects like Cowboys Stadium, not its green thumb. But, the firm combined the two by planting a 50-year-old red oak tree on the grounds of the George W. Bush Presidential Center last month. The tree won't be on the cover of Vogue any time soon with these measurements: a 25-foot root ball diameter, a 45-foot height, a 31-inch trunk diameter, and weighing in at 245,000 pounds. The tree was transplanted from another part of SMU scheduled for demolition and is the largest of 40 trees transplanted on the project site from around SMU. (Thanks to Blanca Rodriguez for snapping the tree?s good side for us.) |
