Behind The Numbers Of Facebook’s Fort Worth Data Center
Facebook’s data center in Fort Worth, under construction now, will be the fourth-largest in America and will be amazingly green. According to permit information, development began in May 2015 under the alias Project Ernst and the data center will attempt to be 100% renewable, having already contributed 200 MW of wind energy to the Texas grid, according to BuildZoom. The wind development will be 17,000 acres, less than 100 miles away.
The project has reportedly cost $230M to date, but you ain't seen nothing yet—Facebook plans to spend $500M on the project. The data center has required 39 building permits so far, including eight general construction building permits obtained in a JV by DPR Construction and Fortis Construction, 17 plumbing and mechanical permits obtained by Texas contractors TDIndustries and Powers Plumbing, and seven electrical permits obtained by Rosendrin Electric.
The data center will initially be built as a 250k SF facility but will eventually triple to 750k SF. Sited on 110 acres in the 14100 block of Park Vista Boulevard, the complex will employ approximately 40 people. [BZ]
