Healthcare Development Has 'Triple Aim' Now

Healthcare's one of the fastest-growing real estate segments, and new trends are changing the game. We'll delve into it all at Bisnow's DFW healthcare real estate event April 13, starting at 7:30am at the InterContinental Dallas. Read on for a teaser, including some projects underway.

Turner Construction director of healthcare Steve Whitcraft, a panelist at our event, is seeing a continued focus on the Triple Aim: improving the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction), improving the health of populations and reducing per capita cost of healthcare. For Turner, that means minimizing adverse impact to patient experience during construction, reduced facility cost and new efforts to improve the health and safety of its staff and project workers.

Steve expects to see more distributed, specialty and smaller healthcare facility requirements. Turner just started building a 105k SF clinic facility for UTSW, which is the first phase of a satellite location for the UT Southwestern Medical Center in Fort Worth. (The new project's rendered here.) It’s an expansion of the presence that began with the UTSW MC, Steve tells us. Turner also began work on the UTD Brain Health Center adjacent to the UTSW campus, which will support important brain research—including concussions and Alzheimer’s-related diseases. Last but not least, Turner's healthcare team is beginning doctor office interior finish-outs for the Gaston Avenue Medical Office, including 182k SF of enclosed space over a 1,231-car garage it's building adjacent to the Baylor Downtown hospital.
