Altera Breaks Ground On Allen Convention Center, Delta Marriott Hotel
It has been a busy April for development in Allen.
Adjacent to Kaizen Development’s upcoming office building, Altera Development plans to start construction later this month on a $91M Delta by Marriott Hotel and attached convention center that will deliver in 2018.
The City of Allen, Allen Economic Development Corp. and Allen Community Development Corp. are jointly investing $10M in hotel occupancy tax revenue toward the management operation of the Watters Creek Convention Center on the northwest corner of U.S. 75 and Bethany Drive.
The hotel is being developed largely in response to Allen’s corporate growth, EDC executive director and CEO Dan Bowman said. Allen CVB director Karen Cromwell said the convention center will allow the city to compete at a regional level in hosting larger meetings, sporting events, conferences and trade shows.
The hotel will have 300 rooms and 1,000 parking spaces. With more than 90K SF of event space, it will be one of the largest facilities of its kind in North Texas. It is within Watters Creek Office Park’s 900K SF of planned space. Amenities at the hotel include a restaurant, a bar, a grab-and-go café, a courtyard, a pool, a fitness center and free internet.
Benchmark Hospitality will operate and manage the hotel.
