Sam Moon Group Opens Its First Hotel In Legacy West
On July 10, the first guests will check into the first full-service hotel to deliver in Plano in several years. Plano-based Sam Moon Group developed the 304-room Renaissance Dallas at Plano Legacy West Hotel after breaking ground in October 2015.
Sam Moon Group is the parent company of the accessories giant Sam Moon Trading Co. This $131M hotel marks the group’s first hospitality development but two more are close behind. A Hyatt Place Alliance will open later in 2017. Construction on the mixed-use development Metropark Square in the Woodlands started in 2016.
Dallas-based HKS designed the 15-story building with interiors by Dallas’ Looney & Associates. Brasfield & Gorrie constructed the hotel.
Renaissance Director of Sales and Marketing John Klukan expects about 60% of the hotel’s business to be professional travelers, but also thinks the local staycation market will pull visitors.
The interior of the hotel blends Asian and Texas influences in everything from the finishes to the art to the furniture. Texas touches such as George W. Bush quotes on the room walls to lasso-inspired light fixtures are seen alongside wallpaper patterned after the Shanghai skyline.
Amenities include a heated pool, a fitness center and outdoor event space with cabanas and fire pits. The hotel has 440 parking spaces. A 15K SF ballroom and 19 meeting rooms make up 30K SF of rentable event space. Klukan said the hotel has already booked several events with nearby corporate users such as Toyota.
Asian fusion restaurant Oma will serve three meals daily adjacent to a full bar called Whiskey Moon. A tea and coffee shop will have grab-and-go food.
