Mixed-Use Development Mixing It Up With Solar Power
The 60K SF mixed-use 1808/GoodWork development is going solar.
The project recently received a $300K grant from Downwinders at Risk to build a 454-panel solar array that will supply 149.8 kilowatts of solar power, 45.8% of the building’s total power. Sunfinity Solar will be in charge of the installation.
“Solar power makes sense for businesses of all sizes — from for-profit concerns to schools and nonprofits — for the same reasons that it appeals to homeowners,” Sunfinity Solar CEO John Billingsley said. “The potential financial savings are impressive, and they go on for years.”
Steve Kinder and 1808 Partners L.P. started to revamp their once-abandoned 1930s building on East Cedars in February 2016. It is set to reopen in January as an environmentally friendly mixed-use property featuring 8K SF (11 units) of multifamily that can be used for Airbnb, depending on demand; 15K SF of co-working space by GoodWork; a 1,600 SF coffee shop; 18K SF of traditional offices; and 7K SF of event space.
Notable amenities include a fabrication lab and a locker room with showers to accompany its fitness center.
