Southwest Gets 'Wings' With New Office
Southwest Airlines is getting a new office building. McCarthy Building Cos will build a 414k SF office with attached 367k SF flight training center for the Dallas-based airline company. The training center includes 18 flight simulator bays (because what else would you expect from Southwest?) in a special structure built to withstand 210 mph winds so that it will remain in operation daily. A parking garage and surface lot will house 2,500 cars. Southwest will have a heck of a lot more places to store all those free in-flight peanuts after the new structure, called Wings, opens in early 2018. BOKA Powell is the project architect, and Pacheco Koch is the landscape architect and civil engineer. Construction begins in June.
