Loeb Architects Revs Up the Seniors Sector
Loeb Architects president Zelma Loeb is not just an architect—she’s also earned her gerontology certification (the study of aging). Add that to her architectural experience in seniors and assisted living (she was a corporate architect for a national assisted living/memory care developer and operator), skilled nursing/rehab, and multifamily housing. Zelma brings this unique talent to a sector that will be hot for years to come, as Baby Boomers age and America continues to gray. Zelma says recent roadblocks included the economic crunch (seniors couldn’t sell their homes) and a President rearranging healthcare. Medicare cuts have thrown a wrench into development plans, but the market is now strengthening. A good part of the new activity emphasizes assisted living, with the courtyards, porches, and more private rooms. The stress is on outdoor spaces and a de-emphasis on dorm-style or hotel-style assisted living. For more info on our sponsor, click here.
