Schools A Key Issue on Election Day
The $1.6B bond package proposed by the Dallas ISD for the election today has earned the support of Downtown Dallas Inc.
The package includes funding for nine new or replacement schools, the addition of classrooms at existing schools and facility improvements. John Crawford, president and CEO of Downtown Dallas, outlined the association’s support in a piece for D Magazine, including a simple matter of economics. Better schools lead to a more educated workforce, which in turn leads to success for the city as a whole, a formula several of the most successful cities have executed.
A report card earlier this year from Mayor Rawlings indicated that strengthening schools in the area should be a priority. The continued growth of the intown neighborhoods points to a need for improvement in our schools, something the ballot measure hopes to address. [DMag]
